Cook I
The Cook I is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes with precision and creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Food Preparation and Cooking:
- Follow recipes and culinary techniques to prepare and cook a wide range of menu items.
- Ensure that all dishes are prepared to the highest quality and presentation standards.
- Properly portion, season, and garnish dishes to enhance their flavor and appearance.
- Adapt to various dietary requests and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-related requests.
2. Kitchen Organization and Cleanliness:
- Maintain a clean and organized work station, including cutting boards, utensils, and equipment.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper food storage and handling.
- Assist in routine cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep the kitchen in excellent condition.
3. Quality Control and Presentation:
- Conduct regular quality checks to ensure that all food items meet established standards.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to maintain consistency in food preparation and presentation.
- Work with a sense of urgency during peak service hours to meet guest expectations.
4. Ingredient Handling and Inventory:
- Properly handle, store, and rotate ingredients to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Assist with inventory management, including restocking ingredients and reporting shortages.
- Follow portion control guidelines to manage food costs effectively.
5. Team Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with fellow kitchen staff and servers to ensure efficient workflow and timely service.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior cooks or kitchen assistants as needed.
- Collaborate with the chef and kitchen team to experiment with new recipes and menu items.
6. Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all local, state, and federal regulations related to food safety and sanitation.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, promptly reporting any safety concerns or hazards.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Cook I or in a similar kitchen role is preferred.
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining food quality and safety standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Physical demands include standing, walking, and participating in recreational activities.
