The Waiter/Waitress is responsible for providing excellent dining service to restaurant guests by taking orders, delivering food and beverages, and ensuring an exceptional overall experience. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Waiter/Waitress plays a vital role in upholding the restaurant's standards of hospitality and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Guest Service:
- Greet guests warmly and escort them to their tables.
- Present menus, explain daily specials, and provide detailed information on food and beverages when asked.
- Take accurate food and drink orders from guests, entering them into the point-of-sale system.
- Ensure orders are served in a timely manner and to the guests' satisfaction.
- Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to their requests, providing attentive and personalized service.
- Handle guest inquiries and complaints with a professional and courteous attitude, escalating issues to management when necessary.
Order Handling:
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure orders are prepared according to guests' preferences.
- Deliver food and beverages to the correct tables while ensuring the correct order is served.
- Monitor guests throughout their dining experience to address any additional needs or requests.
- Clear tables after guests have finished dining and prepare tables for the next seating.
Sales & Upselling:
- Upsell additional food items, beverages, or specials to enhance the guest experience.
- Provide suggestions for wine pairings or menu recommendations to encourage additional orders.
Cash Handling & Payments:
- Present the bill and accept payment, handling cash, credit card transactions, and other forms of payment accurately.
- Ensure the correct change is returned to guests and payments are processed properly.
- Maintain accurate records of orders and transactions.
Cleanliness & Safety:
- Ensure cleanliness and presentation of dining areas, including table settings, silverware, and glassware.
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations, including proper handling of food and beverages.
- Assist with cleaning duties, including resetting tables, polishing cutlery, and cleaning spills when necessary.
Team Collaboration:
- Work cooperatively with other waitstaff, kitchen personnel, and management to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
- Assist colleagues with tasks when the restaurant is busy or during peak times.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Previous experience as a waiter/waitress in a restaurant, café, or hospitality setting is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of food and beverage menus, including wine and cocktail selections, is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality service.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Basic math skills for handling payments and transactions.
